The history of the campus of the University of Vienna dates back to the 18th century, when Emperor Joseph II had the Viennese Großarmenhaus rebuilt into the General Hospital. With a donation from the city of Vienna to the University of Vienna, the entire area became the property of the university in 1988.
16 institutes of the philological and historical-cultural studies faculty, the lecture hall center with two lecture halls, numerous service facilities for students as well as shops, offices and catering establishments characterize the campus as a place with many faces. In 13 green courtyards, students, employees and also the Viennese citizens will find oases of relaxation, an opportunity for encounters with art and culture, local food and culinary delights.
The campus of the University of Vienna is located near the historic center and is easily accessible by public transport.
